White Stuff have put up some new and sale images
About White Stuff
Sean Thomas and George Treves were college friends living the dream in the French Alps, desperately trying to avoid going back to uni. A cunning plan was hatched to sell T-shirts to raise the funds to stay out there, a plan that has since led to the wonderful clothing brand we know and love today.
After abandoning Treves and Thomas as a label name (TAT Clothing anyone?) George and Sean hit upon ‘Boys from the White Stuff,’ a clever pun on the ‘Boys from the Black Stuff’, a gritty BBC2 drama about unemployed road tarmackers based on the play by Alan Bleasdale at the time (it was better than it sounds). Holidaymakers in the Alps got the joke. White Stuff refers to the snow (contrary to popular urban myth) and the glamorous chalet girls of the time (along with a few ropey ones) gave the boys enough T-shirt requests to keep them very busy indeed.
Things snowballed and soon the intrepid two were making tees, sweats, and fleeces – all manner of mountainwear. The Chinese symbol on the clothes was really popular to those in the know. (If you still don’t know, the symbol is simply slang for ‘clothes’.) White Stuff became so popular that even their mates got in on the action and started flogging their own Alps-inspired tees.
